Go shoot yourself

I'm a little bit older, a little bit wiser, a little bit rounder, but still none the wiser.

this year seems a tad quiet when mentioned in the same breath as last year's celebrations.

nevertheless, managed to engage in the one activity that i find solace in ( no, not drafting posts for this worthless piece of shite blog), nothing fancy, nothing deep, just pure entertainment. for the past ten days, i've been devouring comedy after comedy after comedy.

heres the list of funny movies that i've watched recently:

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou ( As good, or even better than Darjeeling Limited and Royal Tenabaums. Wes Anderson is a genius) 9/10

Blades of Glory (ice skating with 2 faggots. Will Farrell at his irritating best) 5/10

Ghost Town (no idea how to describe this. but it had its moments. not exactly the best film to watch while bunking over, puts ppl to deep sleep) 6/10

Knocked Up (Successful entertainment presenter gets pregnant with loser's baby. Seth Rogen as President, maybe?) 7/10

Pineapple Express ( It’s a suspenseful, offbeat and exciting action-comedy about two stoner buddies who are on the run after witnessing a crime. well worth watching for James Franco's performance as the happy-go-lucky perpetually stoning drug dealer) 7/10

Happy Gilmore (Ice hockey player turns golfer to pay off nana's debt. Adam Sandler, enough said) 8/10

Superbad ( coming of age film of 3 high school seniors who want to score. it made me laugh, really loud) 7/10

The History Boys (What is history? satire and kinda funny in a sick way)

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince of Caspian (yes, dumb movie acting serious, what a joke)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and the best comedies of 2008 goes to.................... in no particular order*
(*yet to review Yes Man, not to be confused with I P Man)

a. You don't mess with the Zohan

Seriously, I feel sad for people who haven't seen this. Why dont you look yourself in the mirror and curse yourself not having watched this. I must say, its pure Sandler at his best since ....... Little Nicky maybe? I wish I could have his goatee ..

b. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Sensitive, new age comedy about a loserish guy learning how to pick himself up after jilted by his famous girlfriend whos a tv star. He packs his bag for Hawaii for a break, only to find his ex-girlfriend with her current crush who is a mega superstar.

Amazingly funny, just be wary of the slight nudity and butt cracks that appear a bit too often. Not suitable for fans who still think they are 18.

c. Tropic Thunder(its the right poster)

Either you love it, or you hate it. Ben Stiller, with his usual frat pack gang, is up to their douchebag and goofball behavior again. A film in a film, a director takes his prima donna actors into a real conflict area to make the film more realistic. Simple Jack made me laugh so hard.

d. Kung Fu Panda

I'm not a big fan of animations. But this is like dope, the more you watch it, the more it grows on you. For a brief period after watching this, I wanted to be Po. And that really speaks alot. (i dont feel that way anymore, if you are worried)

Honorary mention: Wall-E, Burn After Reading, Definitely, Maybe

Buzzwords of 2008 Comedies: Zohan, Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen, Dwight (of The Office), Keanu Reeves

What are your choices for best comedies of 2008?

*Watch out for Funny People by Sandler and Rogen, coming to theatres near you* May 2009 be a feel-good year, full of optimism, joy and good movies.
