Singapore Needs A Hero?
Do we have a Singapore Hero that we can identify with? Take the foreman at the Nicholl Highway collapse for example, after so much talk about erecting a statue for him, re-nameing the MRT station after him, Singaporeans just forgot about him 4 years down the road. When Sundram scored with a bicycle kick in 1993, he was a hero to many, but when he failed to get into the national team the following year, people laughed at him. When our ping pong girls won the 2nd place in the World Cup, they were mistaken for tourists from China at the airport.
So, the question is, do we really need a hero?

the leap years
“A saint once decreed that a man must agree to a woman’s proposal today. Give me a sign, whether to meet me at eight, at the same place you sit, and fulfill the tradition of February 29.”
Bollocks.
Still i enjoyed it. If you expect something like 881 or Jack Neo's crass and rowdy movies that depict Singapore, the Leap Years is certainly something different. The cinematography enables the night scenes to look so much different from how we see them: from Chinatown, Clarke Quay and Geylang, they just look so charming and somehow romantic. This is a love story of Li Ann and Jeremy (Ananda) that plays out for three leap years. Romantic? yes. Draggy? somewhat.
still, Wong Li Lin is wonderfully refreshing in the movie. Her goofy smile and her action on screen oozes a clean slate of fresh air(at least to me). Ananda was a little wasted, somewhat like a flower vase , pretty on the outside but merely for decorative purposes. Somehow I realized I love 715's character really much coz i could relate really much to him.
The plot is simple, yet somehow executed pretty well. all in all its a good film, especially with the right company. As a local film, it stands apart from the typical dose of Singaporean movies that we have been treated to for years. I foresee more adaptations of Catherine Lims works in the future.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Plot for short story: promising young man with delusional tendencies gone past the edge. Realizes friends and family have forgot his birthday. Slowly and gradually becomes filled with angsty thoughts. Day of his birthday: received no wishes from anyone. Anger filled him. Insomnia, goes on a rampage, gunning down students in anger, tears swelling in his eyes, screaming repeatedly "WHY DID YOU NOT WISH ME HAPPY BIRTHDAY! WHY!"

Procrastination is a SIN
Let's face it, how many of us just like to procrastinate? Does it feel good to procrastinate? Certainly it does! Because we will get to rest, enjoy some free time etc etc....But wait, what will happen? At the end of the day, you still need to get the job done! So you have shorter time to do the same task!
Why do we want to procrastinate? I believe it its because we have this fear in us, the fear of failure. So, in order to avoid confronting this feeling, we procrastinate in the hope that we can delay the confrontation. Come'on, be confident! Why must you run away from the reality! Get the job done! And do it well!
So, get your ass off the chair and start doing the things that you have been procrastinating for some time now!
