Do we have a Singapore Hero that we can identify with? Take the foreman at the Nicholl Highway collapse for example, after so much talk about erecting a statue for him, re-nameing the MRT station after him, Singaporeans just forgot about him 4 years down the road. When Sundram scored with a bicycle kick in 1993, he was a hero to many, but when he failed to get into the national team the following year, people laughed at him. When our ping pong girls won the 2nd place in the World Cup, they were mistaken for tourists from China at the airport.
So, the question is, do we really need a hero?
